Phew's career began in the 70s fronting trailblazing Osaka punk group Aunt Sally (who released one album on Vanity Records in 1979). Ryuichi Sakamoto produced Phew's first solo release in 1980 and in 1981 Pass Records issued her debut LP, a classic featuring H. Czukay and J. Liebezeit of Can, and Conny Plank. Definitely different from his more recent collaboratively ethereal and leisurely LP's, this is a crepitating, sparsely textured album that sounds like a peregrine mixture of Whitehouse eeriness, Diamanda Galas, and the first Sonic Youth LP if it was played by Jandek. A fascinating LP that is best played at very loud volumes lying on the sofa after a few Fernet Branca's.

they picked the cotton that saved the world. that picked cotton propelled u.s. economy; a unique capitalist setup. (though anglo saxon colonizers are not unique.) so many pop stars and hip hop billboard mainstays trumpet u.s. capitalism ad nauseam; or escapism & distraction. "Don't Die," also powerful. "i don't believe they lies. don't believe their truth, need they heads for proof" -- that's direct and powerful. the violinist Saydah Ruz stands out here, i think.
